Are you making money in affiliate marketing?

I'm intrigued by the concept of affiliate marketing and its potential benefits. I don't do it currently, just interested in learning more.

What percentage of AM's are making actual money? I mean real money that makes it worthwhile as a side gig or even those that do it full time?

From an outsider looking in it seems to me:

- The market is over-saturated with entrepreneurs dipping there toes in affiliate marketing

- It would be incredibly difficult and a long process to earn the trust of the consumer and build a following (Why should they buy from your website when they can find almost everything directly on Amazon?)

- It would benefit the AM to find a very specific niche and cater to that crowd

Please chime in. Again I'm just trying to learn more.
